7 PM: happy hour
8 PM: screening
This month's film: Waste Land (2010)
"It's not a very good title, Waste Land — this isn't a bleak film, at all — but just about everything else in Lucy Walker's documentary works, and illuminates." (Philadelphia Inquirer)
Renowned artist Vik Muniz embarks on one of the most inspired collaborations of his career, joining creative forces with Brazilian catadores — garbage pickers who mine treasure from the trash heaps of Rio de Janeiro's Jardim Gramacho landfill.
In this Oscar-nominated documentary, the catadores prove to be unique and surprising individuals in their own right, waxing philosophic as they impart a valuable lesson about what society discards. Music by Moby. From the producer of City of God. (adapted from Netflix)

Each month at this intimate, informal gathering at the hive, we show a film with a message — sometimes entertaining, sometimes political, always inspiring, engaging and thought provoking.
We start the evening with a kind of bring-your-own happy hour and then screen the film after dusk. We'll have healthy, organic popcorn. Please bring something to drink and other food to share if you like.
Open to the public — bring friends. Donations appreciated.
