Zombie Wedding Dance Cancelled?! NOOOoooo...

After trying to purchase tickets online last night, but being unable to find the link on the Beacon Chamber Of Commerce website (beaconny.org), I remembered that Beacon Bagel had a flyer in the window saying that they were selling tickets too. So I went over there after work, and the flyer wasn't there anymore! I feared what I thought was the worst, that they had all sold out. Instead I was told even worse news...that this event had been flat-out cancelled due to "lack of interest". This news bummed me out, but not as much as it bummed out my brother, and cousins who were driving down from 3 hrs north, and had taken the weekend off from their jobs, and bought make-up, and costumes for the event. I seem to recall the Chamber website stating that tickets would be for sale at the door as well. If that was the case, how could there have been a discernible lack of interest? I could understand if it was a pre-sale only event, but not if you're allowing for the possibility of people showing up the night of to attend, and buying their ticket on the way in. Also, in order to create interest, you have to promote your event.

I found out about a vague, zombie event by seeing a flyer on the bulletin board in Bank Sq. coffeehouse in August. It wasn't clear at all, and didn't even have a date on it. I looked everywhere for more info on it, and found write-ups for last year's zombie event, but nothing for this year until the Chamber site had the ticket sale link, and some info. The Southern Dutchess Focus had an article as well. But outside of those, and the lone ticket sale flyer at the Bagel shop, I didn't see anything about it anywhere else, or hear anything about it on the radio. Nobody else I work with even knew what I was talking about when I asked if they were going, etc. Me, and my 5 other guests really wanted to come. How do you cancel an event like this 2 days before it's supposed to take place? Further, when you DO cancel it, aren't you supposed to make a formal announcement of some type instead of just removing the link from the website, and taking down the ticket sale flyer? I'm just really bummed, and this was really botched :-(

It's a bummer for sure. I didn't even see your event until I frantically began searching for a replacement to the Zombie Wedding event. Then I saw that they were sort of linked, and I feared the worst but called anyway. I think me and my friends, and family will have to end up in Hyde Park at the Zombie Roller Derby. Luckily, it's the same price as the dance would have been.

Thank you Claude for being the ONLY person to even call about the event and that was on Thursday of this week. The response was underwhelming.

I am sorry to remove my event at the last minute, but due also to the lack of response (mine was a prepaid event) and the cancellation of the Zombie Wedding dance my prizes where null and void. I had promoted this event in many different places but mostly on the internet, and the responses were , wow that sounds like fun, or what a great idea, oh I know lots of people who would go to that.
The truth of the matter is (as is usual in Beacon) every one wants it, but too few are willing to pay.

Sounds great. IF someone does one next ear I will definately go with the family. 15 year old boys think this kind of thing is cool

and someone in beacon should do this in an empty storefront:

the idea is to take the idea of a haunted house, and make it more like audience participation free form performance theatre, something deeper and more mature. what a great idea

@ Sam Downey: http://media1.break.com/dnet/media/2008/10/30%20Zombie%20Wedding.jpg No, I haven't seen one before. This would've been my first time.

I was excited to see here http://www.beaconcitizen.com/events/zombie-fashion-show that the Cup & Saucer Tea Room is having a Zombie fashion show the same day. However I just called them, and that event is ALSO CANCELLED!?!? There is nothing announcing the cancellation anywhere on their post or profile. What's going on here Beacon?! Luckily, Roller Magic in Hyde Park is having a Zombie Roller Derby the same night at 6pm. I guess we'll be heading off to that. It's just a shame that we have to take our plans, and our money outside of Beacon now :-(

Yeah, it's definitely disappointing and so frustrating. I'm still struggling to understand it. Many people firm up their plans for weekends in general at the end of each given week. I imagine a bunch of people who thought of attending this just figured they'd buy their ticket on the way in too.
