I wish that I was announcing our annual photo show, a mobile market event, or our newest salsa but, I am
writing you asking for your help. For the past three years the Green Teen
funding from the county has been in jeopardy. Last year’s budget cuts led
to the closing of the Poughkeepsie site as well as the elimination of 3 staff
positions. This year it looks like the whole program is in danger of
being eliminated. The Green Teen Program is a program of Cornell
Cooperative Extension Dutchess County. The program gets it’s funding from
various grants and foundations as well as Dutchess County. Without
this county funding the Green Teen program is in danger of being closed.
The County Executive has released his proposed budget for 2011, which reflects
a $774,770 (84%) cut in County funding for your Cornell Cooperative Extension
Dutchess County Association.
Only $150,000 remains in the County Executive’s proposed 2011 Budget. This proposed
84% reduction will result in the elimination of essentially all of Cornell
Cooperative Extension’s educational programs and services including Green Teen.
The Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County you know and rely on today
will not exist next year.
I know that many of you are familiar with the Green Teen program and all that
it does. I am asking that you take the time to write to your legislator
and voice your concerns about the funding cuts. Please visit the CCEDC website at www.ccedutchess.org ;
to find out more about how you can help.
