Tot Park at Memorial Park Vandalized Friday Night

Memorial Park has been vandalized. I arrived at Memorial Park this morning to find many toys smashed to bits and tiny, sharp broken pieces of plastic everywhere. It was heartbreaking. The park is not currently safe for children to play in until we can organize a clean up team. We need volunteers today for the cleanup. Also, if anyone has any toys to donate, we could use some to replace what has been destroyed. We called the police this morning to file a report, but they had already been alerted last night. We took photo documentation of the damage as well.

@Wendy, the Wee Play page on FB says that a cleanup at the Tot park has been organized for Tuesday, Oct. 4th, from 10:00 - 1:00 "fixing, cleaning, sweeping, weeding, cutting down and moving plants, assessing any remaining damage and getting the playground & garden ready for the winter"  and "If you can make it, bring garden gloves and a rake!" I know some parents have requested future clean up days to include weekends so more people can participate.

When would be a good time to get together to do a clean up? I am a teacher so weekends are better.

By the way...

If someone else wants to organize a cleanup of a different park, I'll come to that too. Instead of complaining that other parks are getting attention, get off your butt and change it.

P.S. Rose, a kitchenette would be great, as one of those (sadly, dropped of only a couple weeks ago) had to be thrown out yesterday. There is one work bench at the park, but it is a very popular toy (a real kid magnet), so another would be welcome I am sure!

To those of you who want to donate, you can just drop things off at the Tot Park. Thanks to everyone who came out to clean up yesterday and to those of you who have donated.

I have outdoor play toys (kitchenette, workbench, etc) to donate as well.

Where can we drop off toy donations?

What is sad it the condition the South Avenue parks. Broken bottles, crack bags and empty condom wrappers. But I guess no one cares about that as long as the "tots" have their play pen of toys. Sad.
