Suspended Beacon detective gets 6 months in jail

A suspended City of Beacon police detective convicted of reporting a false burglary to police to cover up an affair he had with a criminal informant was taken out of a courtroom in handcuffs this morning and brought to the Dutchess County Jail.

He is alleged to have called 911 after a physical altercation with an informant’s boyfriend inside her Town of Fishkill apartment. The boyfriend allegedly found Sassi hiding in a closet, in nothing but his boxer shorts. A fight ensued before Sassi allegedly pulled a gun on the boyfriend, according to prosecutors.

“There’s a bottom line, Mr. Sassi,” Greller said. “You took no responsibility for this crime.”

Sassi faces a termination hearing with the City of Beacon Police Department and has yet to resign from his position.

Sassi’s attorney Jonathan Lovett said his client has no intention to resign. He added that he intends to file a notice of appeal today.
