I, Rachel Evans, have been teaching a violin program at South Avenue School in Beacon for Kindergarten through 5th Grade students for the last 10 years. I also have a teaching studio at my home in Beacon where I teach violin and viola to adults and kids of all ages. I am a graduate of The Juilliard School and play concerts on violin and viola of all types of music in this community and around the world.
This summer I am hosting 3 sessions of a Violin Summer Camp during last 3 weeks of August. We will explore music and violin playing from a variety of angles such as posture, hand eye coordination, finger dexterity, rhythm, note reading, improvisation, ear-training and practicing. Other fun activities will include cooking, recreation and poetry. If possible I would like to include a field trip to a local violin making shop. I have been a certified Brain Gym® instructor for many years so will include those activities where appropriate. I live right behind Memorial Park and have a large yard for playing outdoors. I will take only 5 children per week.
Join us for a fun way to integrate violin with other creative activities; this could be a great first experience for a child that wants to start violin. I will appropriately accommodate all levels.
The three sessions are Aug.10-14, 17-21, and 24-28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Fee: $200 per week; some scholarships are available
References are available upon request. I look forward to having a great experience with your children!
