Facebookers of Beacon have suggested that the several hours of close helicopter activity on or around Mt Beacon on the evening of Monday August 4th was related to NY State Police playing Army. One person said they hiked up to see what was going on and was confronted by a state police officer in military garb who told them to get lost and mind their own business.
Does anyone have any facts surrounding this event?

Yes, even if it was happening last minute, there was no announcement at the council meeting.
The word at Mr. V's deli is that it was a State Police Training exercise.
The last time we had helicopters flying around we also had a school lockdown and a manhunt in the highlands for a shooter:

They may be having another actual manhunt that didn't make the news.
Or maybe they were training manhunt skills.
But yeah: it would be nice of them to tell the general public what they are up to.
