I don't think there were any free range rats available in the 1970's, which was a shame, given that laboratory rats are susceptible to such a wide range of diseases. You'd think that lab rats would learn to stay away from labs altogether; the places are clearly bad for the rat's health; but I guess there's no accounting for tastes.
