The City of Beacon is taking every precaution possible to be sure that this year’s pub crawl does not result in the same disruptive behavior as did last year’s event. This event has been getting progressively larger and last year’s disturbance was the culmination of the out of control behavior that has marked this event in recent years.

In an effort to provide effectively for public safety, the City of Beacon is significantly increasing its enforcement efforts. City police will be out in full force and will be assisted by a variety of other police agencies. There will be a “zero tolerance” approach to enforcing public safety, including open container laws. The police will also be assisted by City Code Enforcement and Fire Prevention Safety Officials who will enforce building occupancy limits and fire codes in city establishments. The State Liquor Authority will also be sending representatives to the City on the day of the pub crawl to ensure adherence to liquor license laws. Police officers will utilize all legal means available to provide for the safety of the public and will strictly enforce all applicable laws.

We realize the business community is also in favor of a smaller more peaceful pub crawl. They too were horrified at the size and danger of past events. Therefore many of the controls in place this year are self imposed and supported by participating business.

If you are participating in the event, enjoy yourself, but please be mindful of others so this tradition can continue in the spirit in which it was first conceived.

Thank you,

Steve Gold, Mayor
