Beacon Citizen Network (BCN): a place for neighbors to get the word out, be heard and stay informed in all matters concerning Beacon, NY.

Why is that bridge such an embarrassing mess and dangerous to both workers and drivers.  Have  you driven from Newburgh to Beacon lately?

First, they set up this lane blocking mess in the winter so it will sit empty for months. OK, say they had to do it at exactly this time of year, answer me this:

a) Why didn't they do some patching of other lanes before adding the barriers?

b) Why didn't they do a better job of creating new lane lines?  (people look like drunk drivers and get really close trying to figure out where the lanes are. Scary if you are aside of a truck halfway across.

Would love to complain but not sure who/where it would benefit.  Because it seems to me there must be some sort of corruption, all that advertising and and look at what we get.

Thanks everyone.  Drove it last evening and the line issue is fixed. Maybe even the potholes (to dark to tell). Hope there were no accidents and that no one was hurt, how that was allowed to happen is still the question in my mind.

I don't drive it often enough to get a discount beyond ez pass.   Thanks for the contact person, I will wait till after I drive it again in case they made it safer (hahaha). It is just a joke, there are always lights burned out for those all important lane info.  They put those silly ads on toll arms, while the bridge damages cars and workers fall off it.

if you have ez pass, it costs $1.25.  if you don't make those 17 trips, you get charged what you don't use.  when it was lower price it was a good deal now not so much if you don't work on the other side.

Better deal if you use the thruway just one exit, either to Harriman or to New Paltz, that is the hidden ez pass treasure.

Anna, do you take the bridge frequently?

  • New York State Bridge Authority Discount Plan: Receive a $0.50 discount ($1.00 versus the $1.50 cash rate) on the Rip Van Winkle, Kingston-Rhinecliff, Mid-Hudson, Newburgh-Beacon, and the Bear Mountain bridges. A minimum of 17 trips per month is required. If fewer than 17 trips are taken per month, you will be charged $1.00 for each trip not taken. This plan is assigned to a specific E-ZPass Tag. Plan Code: (NYSBA) - Required Prepayment ($25.00).

A lot of people don't know about this frequent bridge user discount, you have to hunt around the EZPass website after you login to find it.

And you get to pay a $1.50 for almost getting side swiped by a truck suddenly moving his lane. I guess they are assuming the pot holes will slow you down?

It has been going on for weeks and with no work going on, for many weeks ahead.

Yeah I saw that last week!

It was 2 AM Sunday morning, and I remember being in the middle lane Eastbound on i84, I hit the bridge and suddenly I'm eyeballing it from the edge and making a rough extrapolation about where I should be because the dashed lines faded away into a bunch of mismatched ghosts.

If the bridge wasn't empty I'd be concerned. I guessed it was temporary to the nighttime work and would be fixed soon, but I see now fro myour post, no, they just left a mess for drivers to deal with.
