Beacon Citizen Network (BCN): a place for neighbors to get the word out, be heard and stay informed in all matters concerning Beacon, NY.

On the unofficial MNRR FB group page the other day there was a link to a Progressive Railroading notice about an RFP for MTA/MNRR- a request for expression of interest for... ready for this - the Dutchess section  of the Beacon Line

I followed the link to the MTA/MNRR page and seems to be for development on an existing active  line - station vendors or development on MTA/MNRR property - interestingly along the BL corridor there has been (and currently)  development - what I term 'reverse TOD' - the D has come before the T (rail transit)

Questions about this RFEI should be addressed to Alicia Biggs at (212)878-7148 or

DEADLINE:  Responses must be received by 3:00pm on Friday, November 18th, 2016

My transportation advocacy has reached an additional level when in the late spring/early summer of this year when I became a member of Dutchess County's Public Transit Advisory Committee.

At the PTAC meeting at the Fishkill town hall, all or most, of the Fishkill elected officials and a representative of the Gap were in attendance. We gave the county transit admin, Cynthia Ruiz,an earful. I had e mailed my proposals for the route F after the meeting.

These proposals will be included in the county's transit plan. Among the proposals is a new route alignment that goes through Glenham (a proposed stop on the BL) and along Merrit Blvd. past the Gap dist. center and into Hudson Val. Research park for Global Foundries and to the A&P in Hopewell Jct. (proposed stop behind this for the BL) and on weekends (sat and SUN.) to the Hopewell Jct. south end trailhead of the WRS Dutchess RT (the WRS DRT, the WOTH and the Hud Val RT - the Hudson Valley Trail Network - have been inducted into the RTC Hall Of Fame)

one small victory for myself

additionaly this year as a member of Community Voices Heard,I have attended several community partners 'solutions' meetings at the RPA HQ in NYC for their 4th regional plan - among RPA's recomendations is regional rail transit

thanks Gregg - Dogwood? I would guess one of many places on Main St. - what time is the next meet-up?

Scott at Beahive is the program director, Kevin. In the meantime, we've been meeting informally Tuesday evenings at Dogwood. No idea about their fees - best to reach out directly.

Gregg RE: mtg. I am a member of Community Voices Heard - as part of RPA's 4th regional plan they have reached out to community groups for input like CVH - I am the CVH ambassador for Dutchess as part of this there is/was to be a community engagement mtg. - after the first 2 locations did not work out I had suggested tot he Hud Val director Juanita Lewis as a possible location the BEAHIVE - I am working on a presentation hopefuly will be complete soon that includes all transportation - I have included the BL in the rail transit part - lots of improvements to come for the DC transit in south Dutchess - if you have info about the Beahive as to fees for not-for-profit groups and contacts - let me know

Let's meet up in Beacon and discuss options for the community to support together - or at least in large part? I'm calling a meeting for next Tuesday eve at either Dogwood or Beahive, e.g. Thoughts?

yeah tc: kelly and i have discussed pulling the plug on this site

as you say, everything is facebook-centric now, for better or worse

the daily spam join request have dropped to weekly spam join requests, so that's good i guess

there is a beacon reddit group:

but it seems equally forlorn

there are good and active blogs, linked on the main page: beacon bits, a little beacon blog, wigwam

but these aren't centered on discussions, but articles

i'm not sure where we can go for beacon discussion with good moderation to weed out the trolls, but i'd like to hear it

of note, this is an EXPRESSION OF INTEREST - a prelude to a more formal RFP

I went through the MTA/MNRR registration process and was able to download the actual RFEI document I uploaded it to my Trans Dutchess Rail site - page 1 of this document is interesting

and hey everybody - express your interest in the Beacon Line to the contact person given in my post!! this will not only be huge for Beacon but all of SW Dutchess - (Beacon Fishkill E.Fishkill Beekman and West Pawling)

 the door is now open

Coincidentally I came here to post a link to a news article on the same topic.

Metro-North seeking ideas for unused Beacon Line

In comparison your topic headline is a little difficult to understand.

It's a shame this site has so little activity anymore, unless you're looking for frequent updates on events at The Falcon. There is so much development and related issues that Beacon citizens should be aware of and discussing, much more now than the burst of enthusiasm that surrounded the TOD issue years ago. The cesspool that is the Beacon Facebook page really doesn't cut it.
