If you enjoyed learning about where our water comes from in Beacon, watch Amelia's second segment to say goodbye to all the snow... "Did you ever wonder where the snow goes?"

Amelia, your video is great and I really hope to see more of them here on BCN! And Steve, you're a good dad!

I've traveled to many cities and the water in Beacon is quite good. I still use my brita filter, but the tap tastes fine. However, the water chemistry changes from time to time and season to season. From what we learned it mostly depends on the rain we get. Extra CI may added when it pours to combat wastewater seepage...

If you want to learn more about Beacon's water, here's the report:

Amelia says thanks, btw.

Awesome video! If I were a teacher grading this, I would give it an A+! (I would only dispute one statment; that Beacon water is delicious (the level of chlorine is so high, it's more like pool water at our house (off Sargent Ave)))

Thanks for all the great comments! Amelia was delighted to share this experience and has been inspired to do more. A special shout out to for giving my daughter such a fun venue to grow her education.

Amelia.. If CBS still has Sunday Morning on the air in 10 or 12 years after you graduate from college, I think there's a position open for you. Your piece on where we get our water from was short, to the point ,visual and informative. Do more! I'd look at these topics: The Mt Beacon Incline, The waterfront, then and now; the ferry, Long Dock, Dennings Point, Changing Main Street...
If you'd like a tour of WNBC have your dad email me..

beacon has good water

its a blessing of our geography: the big mountain to catch rain. other municipalities have to dig it out of wells, which can have all sorts of things leaching into them, from old industrial sites, to farming fertilizer, to natural minerals with elements you don't want to drink

the nytimes has a tool you can look up beacon's water quality and it compare to other cities:
