Saturday morning (12/11) there were a couple of duck hunters on Dennings Point. Does anyone know if this is allowed?
Justin,You may want to look at the State's Draft master plan for the Highlands Park. They are planning to expand bow hunting to the areas east of Route 9D around and near University Settlement. I believe that this is within city limits. Also, I know this is in Fishkill but, they play to allow shotgun hunting at the north end of the Fishkill Ridge.
The comment period for the plan has ended and a public hearing was held a few months ago (with about 100 people attending), they are expected to release the final Master Plans for both Hudson Highlands and Fanhnestock this spring.
Lots of good in that plan as well including building a Hudson Highlans welcome center and parking on the area behind Craig House, expanding Mtn Bike use on the trails and increased patrols to stop ATV and 4x4 use.
Hunting at Dennings point is not permitted. Some NYS parks allow hunting, but not Dennings point. Furthermore there is no hunting allowed within Beacon City Limits.
Yeah there are two clearly visible signs on the path to Dennings Point saying it is verboten after December 1 (Bald Eagle nesting).
Check with NYS parks. Bill Bauman is the parks supervisor. His office is in Fahnestock on Route 301.
I know hunting is allowed in some areas.
I did a quick search and seems yes, hunting is allowed in any NYS park, if it's in season and they have a license. However, I think Denning's point is technically closed for the winter season for anyone, including hiking or hunting, as it's an eagle habitat.
