Beacon Citizen Network (BCN): a place for neighbors to get the word out, be heard and stay informed in all matters concerning Beacon, NY.

The Howland Public Library, 313 Main Street, is open after being closed for renovations. Our project reconfigured library service areas, creating a dedicated children's room and new program/craft room; a computer center with new computers and improved wireless access; a small community meeting room; and a pleasant reading area. The installation of wall shelves gives our collection room to grow. Sight-lines have been improved throughout the library. Energy-efficient lighting gives HPL a brighter look and will save money, too. And use of available natural light has been improved. Green products were used whenever possible.

The HPL Reconfiguration Project was funded with a bequest, grants, and donations matched by a $51,000 NYS Library Construction Grant. For more information about our project, visit our e-newletter archive and blog at ; Even better: stop by and checkout Main Street's new public space for yourself.
