The Howland Cultural Center
will present “Uncommon Ground” the third offering in its ongoing 2009 Hudson Valley Concert Series. “Uncommon Ground” brings together the unlikely combination of precise, classically trained violin and bass lines with the soul of bluegrass-influenced vocals, mandolin and guitar to drive a band whose fresh, distinctive sound is winning fans wherever they perform.
In addition to presenting local professional classical and classical crossover music ensembles, the 2009 Hudson Valley Concert Series seeks to replicate what has become something of a recent trend in classical music performance by eliminating the borders among classical music, independent rock and jazz, and presenting it in a more casual, accessible environment. The 2009 series is produced and curated by Beacon, NY-based classical crossover chamber ensemble Madera Vox
and hosted by the Howland Cultural Center. The Hudson Valley Concert Series was originally established by the Howland Cultural Center in 2002, presenting over twenty local musicians from 2002 – 2006. This project made possible (in part) through a grant from the Dutchess County Arts Council, administrator of public funds through NYSCA's Decentralization Program.
All concerts in the series will take place on Thursdays at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available at the door. Tickets prices are $15 for regular admission, $12 for members, seniors and students. Children under 12 are free. Local Hudson Valley wine and foods will be available with assistance provided by Beacon’s Artisan Wine Shop.
