Beacon — Police are scrambling to secure traffic after a moose was sighted running loose this afternoon.
The first reports of the antlered interloper began to come in around 3 p.m., according to city residents. Hours later, the moose had migrated out of the southern area of the city and into an unspecified area of town.
"My neighbor knocked on the door and warned me that if I went out to walk the dog I should be careful," City of Beacon resident Keith Milkove said.
Milkove said police closed down a portion of Dennings Avenue for several hours this afternoon. The road is located near Dennings Point State Park from where, Milkove guessed, the moose may have emerged.
At 7:30 p.m., Beacon police were unavailable for comment, except to say they were trying to secure help directing traffic from neighboring police units.
