For real? A moose roaming around Beacon

From the Poughkeepsie Journal yesterday:

Police: Moose on the loose in Beacon

Beacon — Police are scrambling to secure traffic after a moose was sighted running loose this afternoon.

The first reports of the antlered interloper began to come in around 3 p.m., according to city residents. Hours later, the moose had migrated out of the southern area of the city and into an unspecified area of town.

"My neighbor knocked on the door and warned me that if I went out to walk the dog I should be careful," City of Beacon resident Keith Milkove said.

Milkove said police closed down a portion of Dennings Avenue for several hours this afternoon. The road is located near Dennings Point State Park from where, Milkove guessed, the moose may have emerged.

At 7:30 p.m., Beacon police were unavailable for comment, except to say they were trying to secure help directing traffic from neighboring police units.

Hey we do not endorse discrimination here in Beacon! New name cange...Elks & Moose Lodge? Or are they two separate places already?

Perhaps I should. I was not welcome at the Elks lodge. Some sort of discrimination policy against Moose I imagine.

Interloper indeed! People say I'm more of an Anteloper.

Greetings citizens and neighbors! Just taking a stroll to get acquainted with the neighborhood. It is indeed a well known fact that moose are remarkable swimmers (especially yours truly). Hope to see more of the town soon!

Thanks for the link, Matt. The best line must be: "What's more, say New York State Department of Environment officials, he may be looking for love." :)

Dennings Point was just a guess by the beacon resident - seems unlikely to me, makes more sense that it wandered in via the mountains - but have to say there sure did seem to be a lot of jumpy squirrels around !!!
:-))
