Agreed, but to date the only thing " the powers that be" have been able to do is promote him and give him money to go away.  While we are watching, my hope is that this time is different and they have the fortitude to eliminate this sort of cancer aggressively, both now and in the future.

General society needs to trust its own governing and enforcement bodies. Nobody should be above the law, and by that I don't mean the wiggle room in the letter of the law, I mean the spirit of fairness and justice and everyone being held to at least roughly equivalent standards.

There's always gray areas, but in cases like this, we're well outside a gray area and well into the obviously egregious.

So if the obvious consequences of very bad behavior are not forthcoming, the cost to society is loss of faith in its governing and enforcement bodies.

We're all watching this case.

Society must spare NO expense to prosecute this case.  It should be made an example of!

Times have changed and this behavior must not be tolerated anymore, not only by our civil servants but by the unions that protect them regardless of the cost to society.

Alan, relevant:

Legally, a felony conviction leads to an immediate dismissal and loss of pension. But when it's a misdemeanor, the police commissioner can rule on whether the officer keeps his or her job and pension.

Granted, that's NYC. I don't know what if anything a county or state statute says about a case like this.

But whoever is making decisions in this case should keep in mind that it has high visibility in Beacon.
