Does anyone know about the construction on Howland Ave near Union?

Footprint seems a little bigger than just private residential. I know there was some talk a while back that a group home was proposed for the area. Anyone have any info?

Thanks for letting us rip up a chunk of your mountain. In return we'll cut holes in your roads, scatter rocks in the street, and let you enjoy the new potholes every day! Great way to ingratiate yourselves to your neighbors.

Can you please tell me when these planning board meetings, in regards to the home, were held? I have found the minutes for the Kingdom Hall, but nothing on the home. From what I heard around town, was that only those who live directly next to the ski lodge land were notified. I would just like to know a little more... The only thing I would really question would be that at least one, if not both, property would be tax exempt. How is the City planning on making up lost revenue? Those are awfully large plots and homes would have brought in a lot of revenue.

Hopefully you can be first in line to volunteer. I never said anything about the use of the hospital. None of the neighbors did. We all questioned the size of the structure and what it may do to the character of the neighborhood. The CEO of the company said it needed to be that size " because of economy of scale" this coming from a guy who makes 400000 a year. Yeah it is all about the people he is helping. Did you attended any of the planning board meetings? The city tried to fight the size, but they were threatened with a law suit. Please be more informed before you comment. Both of these projects got approved on technicalities either in state law or city zoning. WAUSM?

Mini hospital? Dear God.. instead of being ignorant or perhaps scared of the group home, perhaps once these developmentally disabled human beings move in we can be neighborly and welcoming to them.  Hopefully the sadness of having a child or loved one with that kind of problem will never happen to you or a loved one..ibecaue that can happen in a flash of a second, and if it did..you would definitely change your tone..this kind of reaction happened in a town down state and once the "neighbors" got over their fears and visited, they had a very different view and I am quite sure were ashamed of their ignorance..people actually offered to volunteer and help out their new neighbors..ANd I dear say about fitting in with the landscape of the neighborhoods..I wouldn't say Forestal Heights looks like one of the 8 wonders of the world either,,but people have to live somewhere..

And does anyone know what the bulldozers are doing at the swampy part of Washington Avenue near the cemetery?

being a religious organization, does this mean they won't pay taxes?

i was hoping we would see more tax paying businesses in beacon to lighten our tax load

The group home will be a single story 8000 square foot (mini hospital). Same size as all the other homes in the neighborhood. Just your standard 14 bedroom home.

The Jehovahs should be done by mid May. Hopefully sooner since they don't have the decency to give anyone in the neighborhood a break from heavy construction.equipment sounds.  Which has gone on until 7 oclock (sometimes later) every night including Saturdays and Sunday's since construction began.

is there any info from the City in regards to the home for adults, esp when do they plan to start construction and how big will the home be?

Comment by Nancy Rosaler on April 17, 2013 at 9:58pm

The 2nd plot will be a home for adults which will be run by Ability Beyond Disability. www.abilitybeyonddisability.org

It's going to be Kingdom Hall for Jehovahs. If you go to the City website, under planning dept, there is information in the minutes.  I've also heard that there may be a some sort of group home going in behind the Hall. It's two plots. The 2nd plot was apparently bought by the state. But, no info as to what may go back there...
