Dear BCN community,

May I ask what you think the city government should do that would lift our city to new levels? What goals should we aspire to reach? What is it that this city needs or wants or should do, more than anything else....from basic infrastructure like more parking spaces to ideals such as call-in or online polls on the bigger questions facing our city?

Thank you, Steve Gold

Thanks Ben - I can appreciate you taking a stand, and believe me, I've been on the other site (as well as this one)  for many years before you - I pop in every now and then, but the overall level of negativity and repetitiveness there just wears me out.

I know there are more important causes than making Beacon dog friendly...I was just trying to think of some sorta  gimmick, or crowd to cater to attract more people to shop Beacon.  U&B is b---tching there are no jobs in Beacon...  Well...what sorta job ya want to do? Ya, want to make hats, bricks or tape?

The success of Beacon TODAY is going to be Main Street and it's attractions... There is no money for the incline at this time... or other big projects. I can't say fill up every store front with a shop, that's a bit unrealistic currently also.

There are galleries and that's all nice and stuff, but who is going to buy a cigar box with a miniature ceramic fox glued on it for $400+ ??(saw it recently at Hudson beach glass). The damn dog idea was just cause it was a low cost gimmick, toss some water bowls out and some doggie bags dispensers and smile and wave..."what a totally cute sweater on your Chihuahua, Thank you for your business, come back again"..  Jeebus...

And U&B...no matter how successful Beacon is or isn't in creating jobs, your general negativity, piss poor attitude and might I add "Honey", your chauvinistic demeanor is why your bitter a$$ will remain unemployed

Philomena, I think you've been around long enough: Kelly had to close the discussion forums on this site because of pretty much this one troll. She didn't want to deal with the grief and who can blame her? Now instead we have discussions in these truncated cramped News posts. It's a loss.

You say "We all know what to ignore and not to ignore", and that may be true of yourself, but it's unfortunately not true of enough of us enough of the time.

If you want, you can go to the other Beacon site, and see for yourself what dominates when you don't keep a lid on certain characters. What things degrade into, and what is lost in terms of a forum that works and that people want to be a part of. So I'm sorry Philomena, but a stand has to be taken and it will be taken.

However, you are correct in one respect: "your rants on that topic are as bad as the ones you protest." I can see where you are coming from. So I will complain no longer publicly about this troll.

Hate to say this - but - Ben - please - don't start up the troll thing again - gone way past the obsessive, and your rants on that topic are as bad as the ones you protest ! We all know what to ignore and not to ignore. I know you mean well, but not sure why you feel the need to police the site as to people's tone.

Joan - I like your idea - if there were cameras down by the creek or at some of the known problem areas, would be a lot easier to catch the criminals.

That's all the soap-boxing I'll do - time to go back and find more spring bulbs trying to peek put through the snow.

74.273% chance of Bud Siegel being the Charlene Vesuvius troll's new account. Welcome back Charlene Vesuvius? Need more data. Keep posting, "Bud."

I used to just roll my eyes when I read discussion diverting heckling -- somebody's problem with screen names or another's problem with tone.  I read smart suggestions and not-so smart suggestions and it doesn't matter to me who the author is.  But lately, I'm finding the discussions here, including the heckling, to be really enjoyable.  I think they might even be more enjoyable outside of the virtual arena.  I  think that if a soapbox were erected next to the tourist information booth, and the town made it available on Saturdays from 3:00 to 5:00 for anyone to say their piece about Beacon for 5 to 10 minutes.  Polite heckling would be just fine.  And locals and visitors alike would enjoy the exercise in community democracy.
