BEAHIVE is Looking For an Intern (or 2)

BEAHIVE is a new kind of shared workspace for independent workers getting tons of buzz. At the most fundamental level, we provide a shared, creative work environment for solopreneurs, the creative class, microbusinesses and consultants. We also plan programs and events to inspire, educate and bond members and the community: personal and professional development workshops, seminars, social and cultural events.

Perhaps more importantly, we're kicking around ideas to collaborate on projects to help in creating a lively, living, local community.

Our original location opened in May right in the heart of Beacon in an artisan-renovated 1907 Bell Telephone building (291 Main St). Now we're partnering with Chronogram (Luminary Publishing) to populate another BEAHIVE in Kingston, the third oldest city in New York and our first state capital. It should be buzzing on Wall St. in the Uptown District by November.

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
Engage with creative, independent professionals and learn firsthand how to build a socially conscious business and community and experience the power of collaboration.

It's unpaid (to start) but could lead to paid work — especially on projects with our members. Time commitment: flexible.

You'll get:
* A free full-time membership to BEAHIVE (worth $150/month) to work on your own projects between things you're doing with us.
* A growing network of mentors. BEAHIVE members work in a variety of fields, from web programming and graphic design to art consulting, holistic health counseling and public relations; writers, editors and solopreneurs of every stripe.
* A breadth of experience not found in a conventional workplace — limited only by your initiative.

You'll help with:
* Event planning, promotion and logistics
* General administration and management of the coworking space
* Promoting BEAHIVE regionally
* Researching grant opportunities
* Supporting BEAHIVE projects, including:
- managing BeaconCitizen.com
- creating an online local barter network
- working on initiatives for the Beacon CityArts, an arts and culture advisory committee to the Mayor
* Collaborating on member projects, which might include:
- PR, publicity and marketing
- writing and editing
- design
- social media

WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH
Scott Tillitt, founder of BEAHIVE and Antidote Collective. He's a socially conscious communicator, equal parts publicist, marketer, consultant and writer. He has 15 years of experience promoting ideas, products and services in various culture-shaping (and sometimes suffocating) worlds — advertising, media, interactive design, photography, technology, television and fashion. Some years ago, he broke the trance of an increasingly cynical consumer culture and started applying his corporate skills to the public good, promoting nonprofits and social issues. He has worked with a range of groups, people, films and books — from the Dalai Lama and Phil Donahue to Rainforest Action Network.

Kelly Kingman is helping Scott manage BEAHIVE Beacon. She is a freelance writer and blogger and started BeaconCitizen.com, Beacon's growing social networking site and HudsonGrown.com, a blog about farm-to-fork eating in the Hudson Valley.

INTERESTED?
We're looking for passion, smarts, humor, tech savvy, responsibility and reliability — as it relates to the above. You also need your own laptop. If you have all of that, email Scott your résumé/CV with a description of yourself, why you want to work with us, and what you'd bring.
