Beacon Citizen Network (BCN): a place for neighbors to get the word out, be heard and stay informed in all matters concerning Beacon, NY.

Beacon of Hope Community Fund needs your input

The Beacon of Hope Community Fund is a new charitable fund being developed by a group of fellow Beacon residents in partnership with the Community Foundation of Dutchess County. The steering committee is being chaired by Sara Pasti and exists to help residents give where they live - right here in our own community.

They are interested in hearing from the citizens of Beacon!

Please respond with your input by May 31st! The steering committee will be meeting on 6/3 to establish a more detailed structure for funds that are raised and want the community to be a part of that decision.

MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of the Beacon of Hope Community Fund is to serve the citizens of the greater Beacon community. We are uniquely blessed with residents committed to our community only matched in strength and beauty by our natural surroundings. By creating a conduit for charitable giving and volunteerism community wide we will help identify present and anticipate future needs in our community so that we may successfully and creatively move forward to continue to make our community a beacon for others to follow. The aim is to strengthen charitable organizations already in place as well as identify and support other areas where support is not currently present.

We need your ideas. Do you know a neighbor struggling to stay in their home or someone in need of assistance? Do you know a child who has nothing to do after school? Do you know of a park that is in need of refurbishing? Do you know a community organization that needs our help? Do you know of a need in Beacon that is not being filled? By working together we can make sure that all of our neighbors are supported and our community continues to be a beautiful and thriving place to live and work.

Please let us know what you think. Please leave your ideas on our voice mail, 845-883 2224, or send an email to

I learned that they are also in need of help with their web presence, interested parties are encouraged to get in touch asap.

Great idea and this can be great for Recreation programs. Funding is limited and the community will feel it. There are funds out there and an article in last weeks Hudson Valley Business Journal states that Gov. Patterson has made $120 million available for these types of programs. Check out the website for more information. The deadline is June 15.
