I'm fairly new to Beacon but when I moved here a heard from a few people the Beacon H.S. fitness center was a great deal. So since it looks like there are a lot of other Beacon newbies on here I wanted to pass the tip along. Right now it's $95 for the spring and is available to all Beacon residents. This is the second winter I've joined and so far I mainly just use the tread mill, but they have a lot of other equipment for the more serious than myself. You can also use the indoor pool at no extra cost. Check it out.

This is a great deal but hours are very limited.

Amy,

I don't know of a list of equipment but I'm sure you could call and ask (and post here). Or just stop by during the posted hours--the door is unlocked so just come in and look around*. I'd just tell you what they have but I'm kind of ignorant on such things so could only say they have 5 treadmills, 3-4 exercise bikes, plus a maybe 10 other machines which I have no idea how to use. Also some free weights I believe.

I've been there a few mornings a week and the most I've seen is 3 ppl there at one time so there's plenty of room. You may even hear some good Beacon gossip/politics depending on who happens to show up. :)

* Oh, if you want to look around, enter the athletic entrance (furthest entrance you can drive to), then enter the doors and take the hallway to the left. The fitness room is about halfway down that hall on the left.

Is there a list somewhere of what equipment they have? Anyone know if the fitness center is crowded in the mornings?

this is interesting too:

"Any youth 13 YEARS OF AGE OR YOUNGER requires the presence of an adult responsible for his/her supervision while on the POOL FACILITIES and on the Beacon High School premises at all times. Children 12 YEARS AND UNDER are NOT allowed in the FITNESS CENTER."

and there's no listed fee for kids. so theoretically, for the cost of adult admission, i could take my 5 year old and teach him to swim on saturdays (the hours are restrictive otherwise). well... it's an adult pool, so there's no shallow end. i wonder if they allow floaties

but good tip, i had no idea this existed. thank you for this info steve
