Attention all dogs. As per the city council last Monday, you are now officially permitted to walk your human companions at Riverfront Park! As always you must keep them on a leash (for when they behave badly), and oddly expect them to carry a bag to pick up after you (go figure!).

Bud, this is not an issue that anyone running for office in an election year wants to decide. The council members who voted put politics aside and did their job. More people don’t own dogs then those who do. But you are correct on the other point. When we changed the ordinance to allow for the Dog Park at Memorial Park a few months ago, we discovered the ordinance allowed dogs (on leashes) at Riverfront but signs have been up for years to the contrary. My thoughts were the council should take a fresh look at it. We held several public hearings.

It must be election season.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the Gould Administration, it was decided that dog walking would be permitted in Riverfront Park, but nobody took the sign down.  It didn't take a council meeting to have someone remove the old sign.
