I am pleased to announce that Attorney General and Gubernatorial Candidate Andrew Cuomo has agreed to include Beacon (representing Dutchess County) on his “Drive for a New NY” tour. I have invited him to City Hall this Sunday July 18th at 11:00 AM. The event is open to the public however seating is limited to the first 75 people. Doors will open at 10:30 AM. A warm invitation was also extended to Rick Lazio to come to City Hall any time he is available. We are all proud of our great city, and this is a wonderful opportunity for both candidates to understand what makes Beacon so special. - Steve Gold, Mayor

First Phase of “Drive for New NY” Starts Tomorrow with an 11-Day Tour That Includes Events in Over a Dozen Counties across the Hudson Valley, Capital Region and the North Country

Volunteers at the Local Events Will Then Go Out into Their Communities to Encourage New Yorkers to Sign On to Cuomo’s 5-Point Plan for A New NY

Andrew Cuomo today announced that he is starting the “Drive for a New NY” in order to advance his citizen organizing initiative. The first phase of the “Drive for a New NY”, which will be conducted using an RV, includes an 11-day swing with Cuomo holding organizing events in over a dozen counties throughout the Hudson Valley, Capital Region and the North Country. Cuomo will be travelling with his daughters, combining campaigning with enjoying Upstate New York’s beauty and history.

“Ours is a different kind of campaign where we are working to develop a citizen coalition around a new agenda of competence and integrity in government to bring sweeping change and dramatic reform to Albany. During these visits, we will show New Yorkers that we can make government work again for the people,” Cuomo said.

Cuomo’s organizing events will bring together community leaders, a bipartisan group of elected officials, and dozens of volunteers who will then go out in to their communities to encourage New Yorkers to sign on to his 5-point plan for a New NY. Details of the plan are available at

During the “Drive for a New NY”, Cuomo will visit all 62 counties, holding similar organizing events in every region of the state. Last month, Cuomo and his lieutenant governor candidate Robert Duffy held a statewide conference call with more than 1,000 volunteers to as part of their statewide organizing drive.
