I heard a siren outside my house so I went to check it out and found several police cars and four (4) fire trucks, including one from Fishkill! I asked a police officer if there was a fire, and he said that smoke had been reported in a crawl space. Is there any wonder why our taxes keep going up when four fire trucks respond to smoke? I'm off Sargent Avenue, so how a Fishkill fire truck ended up all the way across Beacon from Fishkill is a mystery to me.

I hear you. A number of years ago my mother in law--90+ years of age--was advised to call the local ambulance for a non-emergency transport. The ambulance arrived, but so did an armada of fire apparatus that shut down the street and lit the neighborhood with flashing lights, etc. Months later she was back home and advised by her doctor to call 911 but she refused because she was too stressed out the last time by the crazy response. She said she'd never call for an ambulance or let us call one for her because of it, and kept to her word.
A few years back, our CO alarm went off and we called the non emergency line to find out how to respond. The city's response was 3 fire trucks and two ambulances - even though we had already made it clear we were all fine and not in danger. They stayed for nearly an hour and told us to vacate. End result we had to spend the night at a hotel but their response felt highly over-reactive.
Saw the same ruckus from my upstairs window. Glad it's not a serious fire.
