Parking meters: bad idea. Not because of the hassle, but because it is offset by lost business.

http://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/story/news/local/southern-dutchess/2016/02/28/beacon-looks-add-parking-meters/80558996/

You're just killing business. Which offsets any parking revenue, and then some.

Expand the side lot parking areas. And all of the unused parking potential on the East side near the creek as part of…

Petition to rename Donald Trump Park: Pete Seeger Park

Donald Trump is a blowhard xenophobe, some of his statements while running for president are incompatible with core American values.

Pete Seeger's work for the Hudson River is an example that needs to be memorialized.

Never mind the simple fact Trump is still alive.

Naming a state park after a living person is usually forbidden. This of course has been routed around in the case of Donald Trump with ego and money.

Here's the…

The Beacon Board of Ed Soap Opera

The drama in our Board of Ed is becoming a slow motion car crash, and it's rather disgusting, and all of Beacon should know about it.

If you're a parent the focus should be on educating our kids, not pointless useless drama. If you're a taxpayer you should know you're paying for a ridiculous musical chairs act with superintendents that is costing you a lot (eight in 8 years! each a signing bonus, severance, ongoing healthcare, etc.).

The good news is that…

Yay! The Transit Oriented District is coming back!

http://www.midhudsonnews.com/News/2015/July/23/Bea_TOD-23Jul15.html

The thing that blew my mind about the sinking of the T.O.D. last time is: there is no better way to boost biking and walking, and increase Beacon Main Street business, than a large captive audience of people in train dependent housing a couple hundred yards away.

But there was loud opposition of people who had…

Just saw a shooting at Exit 11

It happened right in front of me. Police shot a man holding a knife. I don't want to say any more right now about what I saw, it will be all over the news I'm certain. I don't know if the guy survived or not. Happened half an hour ago. I'm going to contact BCPD and give my statement.

Missing Kayaker

A man's kayak capsized Sunday around 7:30 PM off of Cornwall. He has not been found yet.

His fiance also went in the water trying to help him, but she was picked up by boaters. She went to the hospital with hypothermia and was treated and released.

Conversation with my neighbor about a developer overstepping his bounds

My neighbor, Judith Vanderhoef, approached me just now walking my kids home from school and I promised I'd get the word out so there's more awareness:

She is being bothered by a developer, Rodney Weber.

He is developing the two large parcels on South Avenue.

He added a third property to be developed, behind the two large parcels, that is accessed by an old strip of trail, running from Sargent Avenue. I think it dates to the days of the Sargent…
