    As many of you know I have had a bad car accident last July. As a result I have had some memory problems from brain trauma. But one thing I did not forget is why I founded the Sargent and Downing Gardens.The mission was to create a community garden and educational center to pay tribute to Henry Winthrop Sargent, Andrew Jackson Downing and the great historical role the City of Beacon played in American horticulture.It was a Sargent and Downing Gardens for the children and community.…

We All Will Miss Pete Seeger

     The first time I met him was when I had my business in Beacon in 1995; a flower shop called Sherwood Florist. It was one of the storefronts of the Beacon Hotel.I had attended a Beacon Rotary Club lunch meeting and he was the guest speaker. He spoke about the Hudson River and things he was doing to help clean up the river.

Today The City Of Beacon by order of the Mayor Randy Casalle partnered with Sargent and Downing Gardens. Two years ago Richie Cabo started the Namesake Tree project through Sargent and Downing Gardens. Gary Wood the the treasurer for Sargent and Downing Gardens donated four trees, one for each of his lovely daughters. Bees & O2 Composting Are Coming To The Grass Roots Sargent~Downing Gardens & Nursery

The SD Gardens Education Center will be receiving a beehive from the NYCBeekeepers.org they are donating a beehive to SDGardens.They have been holding one for Sargent~Downing Gardens and have just been awaiting the approval by the Beacon Recreation Dept. and the Beacon City Council. Sargent and Downing Gardens Is Crazy! About Beacon.We Planted Trees Even In The Snow For Our Children!

     This Saturday The Sargent and Downing Gardens and Nursery went out as planned to plant the trees in Beacon for our children despite the looming snow storm.We Did It! Even in the snow!!
