Basset Hound for adoption

I am sad to say that I am looking for some one to adopt my lovable three year old Basset Hound. I am moving and can not bring a pet with me. I have owned him for his entire life and would love for him to go to a great home. He is the sweetest most caring dog you can imagine. I would like to have some one who leads an active life adopt him, as he is fond of hiking and swimming. He will make a great family dog. He is neutered and up to date on all of his shots. He is also housebroken and adores… Continue

TIRONDA BRIDGE

The next time you go to drop off some junk at the transfer station, take a look at the pile of red, rusting arched iron bridge sections dumped against the fence. If you are new to Beacon, you most likely will have no idea what they are or where they came from. If you have been here for awhile, or if you grew up here, you'll recognize this pile of rusting iron to be the bowstring truss…

Keeping the drumbeat alive on the Beacon Line

Visit the updated site:

New rants and thoughts on this brain dead obvious way to drive growth (and therefore lower taxes) in Beacon, as well as prevent Beacon becoming a parking lot for a growing Southern Dutchess: reopen the Beacon Line. Tie it to the T.O.D. issue. Don't let the MTA sit on this engine of growth for our little city and do nothing. Either reopen it, or get out of the way.…

Mill Street Loft at Beacon Longdock - still possible if enough daily votes received!!!

Mill Street Loft partnered with Scenic Hudson is still eligible for a grant from PepsiCo to establish a environmental and creative arts center in the red barn at Beacon Longdock. This is obviously an amazing opportunity for Beaconites of all ages to further boost our economy, arts and environmental, and a central vision of our community. We have so many awesome studios and galleries, but the majority of art classes for our children are in…

Need a kiddie pool for a film shoot

We're shooting a scene for a film in Beacon on Monday 11/22 and are in desperate need of a kiddie pool. They're decidedly out of season at this point! If you've got one you'd be willing to let us pick up on Saturday and return on Monday, please let us know.

Thanks very much,

Help save the Green Teens & other programs!

For the past six years Common Ground Farm has partnered with Cornell Cooperative Extension's Green Teen Community Gardening Program, bringing local teens into the fields to work alongside the farmer and learn about the food system.

For the past two years the partnership with the Green Teens has grown to running a full-blown mobile market bringing reduced priced food to Beacon seniors and low-income residents, food by Common Ground, staffed by teens.

This program is under… Continue

Your help is needed to restore funding to the CCEDC Green Teen Program

I wish that I was announcing our annual photo show, a mobile market event, or our newest salsa but, I am writing you asking for your help. For the past three years the Green Teen

funding from the county has been in jeopardy. Last year’s budget cuts led

to the closing of the Poughkeepsie site as well as the elimination of 3 staff

positions. This year it looks like the whole program is in danger of

being eliminated. The Green…
