Taskforce for Flooding on Wilkes Street

I own a home across the street from Memorial Park, where for days after a rainstorm it looks like a third-world country, with hoses running out of basement windows onto city streets, dumping out constant spits of muddy water.  We have endured this for at least as long as I’ve lived on this street (9 years), and longer according to other residents.  As each year storms become progressively worse, most recently a hurricane, the flooding has seemingly worsened to the tune of driveway and…

Storm Update

A warming station is open tonight at Tompkins Hose Firehouse (9D and Main Street) for Beacon residents. Anyone in need of warmth is invited. The station is just to keep people warm, there are no special amenities like cots or meals. I have arranged free transportation with AJ Taxi Service at 214-0011 for anyone who needs a ride.

The need for the shelter became apparent at 12:00pm today when Central Hudson could not guarantee the city’s power would be 100% restored…

Assault on Main Street Last Friday Night

Note: Due to inappropriate comments, I decided to change the settings of this news item.  I'll be approving comments from now on to make sure we stay on point and do not get distracted by anonymous members, or those leaving nasty comments for the sake of stirring up emotions.  I will not censor any political debate or opinions as long as the comments appear to be thoughtfully written.

Around 1 am on Saturday October 23rd, my husband was assaulted by a gang of 8-10…

Beacon Pool and Fitness Center Update

This week I went over to the Beacon High School to join the pool and fitness center. It's a really beautiful facility, and still a great deal if you join today--just $100 for full membership until the end of January.

The bad news is that there are plans afoot to close the pool and fitness center to the Beacon community on January 27th because not enough people have signed up for membership.

There are two things you can do to change this sorry state of…

10/19 Beacon Candidates Forum, Some Video/ Thoughts

The first hour or so was devoted to the candidates for County Legislature, and the Ward candidates. On the Democrat side, I was most impressed with the performance of Ali Muhammad (at-large), and on the Republican side, I was most impressed with the performance of Thomas Cunningham (4th ward).

When the mayoral candidates came up to bat, about an 1 hour to 1.5 hours into the 3 hour forum, I was electrified to hear Randy Casale mention the Beacon Line THREE times, including at…
