Recently I received a call from Superintendent Aefsky concerning my petition regarding the possible re-hiring of a teacher at Sargent Elementary School.
She informed me that if a teacher is let go because of budget cuts, that the school was legally obligated to re-offer the position (for up to seven years) should it once again become available.
"Well," I said, " supposing this laid-off teacher was incompetent? Are we still required to… Continue

I have an extra $20 ticket for tomorrow's concert. Anyone want it? It is the $20 plus the fee, which I think was about $4. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you'd like the ticket.

My friend asked me to post this for her. If you parked your red bike with thin tires by the piers, and it is no longer there, contact the MTA police.
She told me this person took a long, long time to "unlock" the bike and then put it in a red van. She went to the MTA police and gave them evidence for you and but doesn't want her name posted.

I was happy that Beacon was mentioned and am hopeful that a revitalized theater on Main Street might improve that part of Beacon. But I'm disturbed by a number of things:
1. The advertising for Saturday's benefit featuring Tom Chapin, Pete Seeger and John Hall (forget the fact that they decided to hold… Continue

Sitting around the crackling fire in a Hudson Valley campsite, I proudly surveyed my forested domain from the throne of a canvas chair. My tent was perfectly assembled and moodily lit by a hanging lantern. On the two-burner gas stove, the cheese was melting on a veggie burger, while a hash of peas and corn heated up in a pot. A sweet potato slowly… Continue

So. The Tioronda Bridge truss sections are stacked against the fence of the Beacon Recycling Center and elicits, I'll assume, genuine concern.. "what a shame",.. A "pity." The iron sections, have been rusting away for years, even prior to the bridge being dismantled a few years ago. Could it have been saved?
Yes. But that's water over the dam, so to… Continue
