Thank You BOE!

Well, it looks like democracy works! You all did a great job in brining it to the attention of the school board how important the pool and fitness center is to our community. Tonight the school board agreed to keep the pool open for the fall semester from September to January for a $100 fee. During this period we need to work on building the membership back to at least 200 people in order to keep it open from January to June and for years to come. We are…

Hi all-

Had an interesting 4th. Neighbors and I found a 2-feet rattlesnake in our back yard. Despite not being native here at all, it was coiled and rattling, so I'm pretty sure we were spot on with our identification.

We tried to pin/trap it, but it escaped under our deck. Police said they don't handle snakes (though they said they'll take a shot at it if it's out in the open). Will be trying to call animal control later. If they balk too does anyone have…

Asbestos Removal at Sargent Elementary School?

Just thought I would let people in Beacon know that asbestos removal appears to be happening at Sargent Elementary School.  I haven't heard of this anywhere, and only became aware because my son was riding his bicycle there today (July 4th) and he told me about it.  A notice indicates an "abatement" job is happening, but that notice doesn't mention asbestos (what would they be abating if not asbestos?).  The waste containerd have asbestos warning labels, so it seems asbestos abatement is…

Needle Arts Guild - Sewing School

I am happy to report that the first ever Summer Sewing Camp beginning July 11th is sold out and the Needle Arts Guild will be offering a second week of Sewing Camp to begin on July 18th.  The Needle Arts Guild has long been a dream of mine and I hope to find other sewers that would like to join me in offering classes both day and evenings.  I have had very positive reaction from the community in just the few months since I began promoting a Needle Arts School .  I think Beacon is the perfect…

Saw Bannerman Island in Transformers 3

Took the kid to the movies and was surprised at the 2 second shot of Bannerman Island in the latest car robot movie. Nice helicopter shot. Blink and you miss it. Laughed at the Hollywood logic that tied it it to Angkor Wat.

Anyway, I hope the Island Trust got a good chunk of Hollywood $$$ from that all that Bayhem.

Too funny.
