Beacon sure has a long way to go, when it comes to being up to par with other municipalities in regards to property maintenance laws. I think most would agree that people should be able to do what they want with in reason on their own property. But when it becomes offensive and defiant to surrounding property owners, it becomes a serious concern when the city does not implement and enforce the laws they have created. This results in a tremendous loss to surrounding neighbors' property…Continue
When I posted the blog "hey beaconites", I never thought I would receive so many responces. Some negative, some positive. The reason I posted the question is because I wanted to open a small store in Beacon and wanted to know what would be a great idea. I was asking you, the beaconites, for help. Now we all know Trader Joes is not coming to Beacon. I like the idea of a craft/models store. A book store? No. Unfortunately, like someone posted, book stores don't last here. What other ideas are…Continue

Its gorgeous outside but you can't walk on Denning's Point, to protect bald eagles from being disturbed.
However, bald eagles are an American wildlife management success story, taken off the federal endangered species list 5 years ago (I see them a lot from the train, usually around Peekskill). NY State is now considering taking them off the state's protected species list. Opening Denning's Point in the winter months would then be a fait accompli. From PoJo (if you can get…Continue

Mr. Mayor and Council Members,
I recently read the new city regulations concerning bicycle riding on sidewalks and I am appalled at the lack of common sense used here. Unfortunately I was unable to come to council meetings leading up to this law due to personal and business matters, but I assumed that someone would have thought this through a bit more.
I want to make it clear that I do not support bicycle riding on the sidewalks by adults and I do not support…Continue
