New Studios + Workspace at BEAHIVE

The situation on Fishkill Ave is (seemingly) unfortunate, but the timing may be good for some folks, at least. The 2nd floor of the BEAHIVE building recently became available, so we're considering ways to take it over and accommodate some of those being "displaced."

The floor includes 4 rooms totaling 1500 sq ft: kitchen, bathroom with shower, large back room with work sink to be divided into studios, middle room that would be a meeting room/dining room/lounge. (See…

Share your favorite poem

Traditionally, the Jewish Sabbath (Shabbat) is welcomed with poems and songs around the Friday night diner table. I'm hoping to tap into the creative energy of the whole Beacon community to open this practice up a little bit, so I’m asking people to share some of their favorite poems. One poem will be posted on Fridays at www.emekproject.org, and hopefully the poems will add a little beauty to your Shabbat, however you celebrate it. We can all use a…

The Beacon Line Project website: new content

Frequent issues involving Beacon's growth center on transportation. And we have a relic of Beacon's industrial past, the Beacon Line, running right through our city. Even more amazing (considering it is not currently used) is that the line is owned and maintained by the M.T.A.

The Beacon Line Project is a long term advocacy group centered on finding ways to use this line. Whether light rail, scenic walking, biking, alone or in combination, the Beacon Line Project aims to draw…

Found Kitty

This fine fellow has been living under my porch, and I finally got him.  I've been seeing him around since the summer.  Do you know who his people are?  He's an unaltered male, big with huge cheeks.  Found on Wodell Street (off Washington Avenue) at Falconer.  His eyes appear to be infected, poor boy.… Continue

Denning's Point Musings 11, A " Blue Pencil" special for some hystorical (sic) fun

The Denning’s Point trails are closed for the winter to protect the American Bald Eagle foraging, perching and roosting habitat. This winter-time closing is essential if we’re to be environmentally-conscious stewards and coincidentally provides some delightful “down time” for me as a Point tour leader and author-lecturer. In the spirit of whimsy I returned to my original research notes just for the fun of reviewing what I call my “blue pencil notes.”

          I recalled…

Creepy and cool: they are going to dig up the leather man

I don't know if he's part of the urban legend landscape of Beacon, but I was born in Danbury, grew up in Newtown (exit 11 on i84, strangely enough), and we would hear embellished stories about this guy:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leatherman_(vagabond)

For over 30 years, in the 1800s, like clockwork, he walked a regular 34 day circuit between New Haven and the Hudson River, sleeping in caves,…
