Population shift from Old Beacon to New Beacon

As of January 19,2009 Beacon’s City Council was struggling with the parameters of future growth. The good news is that they don’t have to deal with the entire world, which is crowded with 6,692,030,277 people, and growing.

One of the issues overlooked in studies and discussions, which concerns the development of the Waterfront TOD, Longdock, and Edgewater, is the seismic shift of residents from existing rental units in Old Beacon to the New Beacon which will emerge off the cliffs and out… Continue

Denning's Point Musing 4 - Winter on the Point over the years

The present winter-time closing takes the high road of environmental conservation … but what about the other years? Let’s pass a few of our own blustery weeks thinking about winter as experienced on Denning’s Point over the years, one era… Continue

A Breathing Technique Offers Help for People With Asthma

November 3, 2009 PERSONAL HEALTH A Breathing Technique Offers Help for People With Asthma

I don’t often write about alternative remedies for serious medical conditions. Most have little more than anecdotal support, and few have been found effective in well-designed clinical trials. Such trials randomly assign patients to one of two or more treatments and, wherever possible, assess the results without telling either the patients or evaluators who… Continue

FYI…Jan 19th Council public hearing is not the Beacon TOD!

Just a clarification since I’ve had several inquiries based on the headlines of the Beacon Free Press from last week. The Tuesday January 19th meeting will contain a public hearing titled RD 1.7. This pertains to the property north and adjacent to the location where the Beacon TOD zone is being considered. It is commonly referred to as the Edgewater property. It is accessed by going west on Tompkins Avenue. I think it was appropriate to identify it as a TOD related zone because of it’s… Continue

Edgewater Devo.this Tuesday

This Tuesday evening, 7PM at City Hall, there will be a public Hearing at the City Council meeting to determine whether or not to grant a new zoning designation on the Edgewater property just north of the Train Station.

The proposal is to rezone the parcel in order to allow a density of 300 residential units to be built on the site.

This is a nice hillside site next door to Thompkins Terrace (200 units) located on Thompkins Avenue, which feeds into 9D. The Edgewater Development… Continue
