More about me:
Retired Broadcast TV cameraman.. My photography is featured at the Center For Railroad Photography and Art web site,Railroadheritage.org; The National Railroad Museum at Steamtown, Pa; in the DB (German Railroad Museum) permanent collection; in the St Louis Mercantile Library at the University of Missouri for their permanent collection. They are also featured in Trains, RR Illustrated Magazine and rail industry publications as well as in past issues of Chronogram and Hudson Valley Magazine. The DB Museum has mounted a show of my Hof Photographs from 1974 depicting the end of steam on main line German railroads. The DB Museums in Koblenz, Halle and Nuremberg, will host the show.
What's your favorite thing about Beacon?
The river and the mountain and our being situated between the two.

A flip of the coin... school; no school;school; no school.....

 

 

   I don't knpow about you, but I've been wondering about something.... Just WHO makes the decision to  call a snow day and when do they make the final call?  Is it the Superintendant of Schools; a Sub-Super along with someone paid to stay up all night to watch The Weather Channel; who then reports his or her findings to the Super,..... WAIT.. News flash !! 5:37a.m. No School today... a good call in light  of the reports that have been coming in. But I'm Still wondering…

TIRONDA BRIDGE



The next time you go to drop off some junk at the transfer station, take a look at the pile of red, rusting arched iron bridge sections dumped against the fence. If you are new to Beacon, you most likely will have no idea what they are or where they came from. If you have been here for awhile, or if you grew up here, you'll recognize this pile of rusting iron to be the bowstring truss…

Bow String Truss sections from the Tioronda Bridge



So. The Tioronda Bridge truss sections are stacked against the fence of the Beacon Recycling Center and elicits, I'll assume, genuine concern.. "what a shame",.. A "pity." The iron sections, have been rusting away for years, even prior to the bridge being dismantled a few years ago. Could it have been saved?
