jMack replied to Mary Kickel's discussion WHERE TO RECYCLE/REUSE/DONATE BOOKS? in the group Zero Waste and Recycling
"Beacon Reads next to the library. They were closed for a long time and not accepting any more books but I believe they have reopened. Sharon is right about the hours though---it's run by volunteers so it's catch as catch can."

"You can buy newsprint, on rolls, from the folks that print the Beacon Free Press (in Wappingers Falls). Rolls vary in size, sold by the pound."

"It is the law. But enforcement by the law is low on their list of "things to do". Boycotting the restaurant would probably be more effective than being a snitch. Or maybe try to reason with the owner?"

ads in my mailbox

Is there anyway to stop the onslaught of fliers from every local supermarket, etc that ends up in my mailbox? They are recycled of course but I get nauseous whenever I think of all the wasted resources to produce them in the first place. In the "old days" one was able to post "NO HANDBILLS" on the mailbox to take care of the problem. I asked my mail carrier the day I moved in not to deliver them and he replied that he would get fired if he didn't.
