Profile Information

How long have you lived in Beacon?
I relocated from London, England in 2008.
More about me:
Londoner. Pirate Radio DJ. Vegetarian. Solopreneur. Pantheist. Web Mistress. Sporadic singer. Internet radio presenter. Life Coach. CEO of a company in the UK that runs holistic and beauty training courses, and of HoundJog, professional dog walking and pet sitting services for Dutchess County dogs and their humans.

My name is Claire, married to John and mom to rescue greyhound Jessie. Quantum physics and cosmology give me goosebumps but I am hopelessly unable to grasp most of it - any particle physicists out there who fancy explaining the basics to me over a glass or two of Merlot?

Music has been and still is one of my major passions. It took me eight weeks to transfer my collection onto my IPod so I could bring it all over from London. I'm particularly partial to 30's gypsy jazz, 40's big bands, close-harmony girl groups, Motown, Puccini arias, Trojan-era reggae, glam rock, punk rock, heavy metal and melodic rock, and modern, guitar layered harmony pop.

I aspire to make good friends in Beacon. Animal lovers, deep thinkers and good souls with whom I can share long walks and impassioned, rambling discussions over drinks and dinner at home and on Main Street. I also run a networking group for British expats in the Hudson Valley at, and a group for greyhound lovers at

Two I love

Beacon Barks and the dressing up of dogs

Yesterday I went to my first Beacon Barks parade with my greyhound Jessie. It was a fantastic event: well organised, well attended, and for a laudable cause. I had one big problem, however - not with the event, but with some of the attendees. By midday the sun was blazing and it must have been over 80 degrees. I took Jessie home at that point, as she was clearly too hot. To my dismay I saw countless poor, panting dogs swathed in thick outfits of every description - bonnets and bandanas, pants… Continue

A Very Potted History: Part One

I grew up very happily. My dad was a master recording engineer at Decca Records. Every night I'd run up the street to meet him when he got home from work, knowing he'd delve into his bag and bring out acetates of The Beatles, The Monkees or The Rolling Stones. I took my A levels at Pinner Grammar School, the anachronistic institution that also spawned the gorgeous Sir Elton John and Simon Le Bon. We had the same ageing music teacher. Oh how we laughed, sprinkling tiny pieces of paper over his… Continue

I believe I saw you at the hat parade today. My daughter and I admired your dog. I wasn't sure I had the right person otherwise I would have introduced myself. In the past I think you commented that you worked for PETA. I would love to hear about your thoughts and experiences one day. Jessie is beautiful!
