I don't actually live in the city of Beacon. I do, however, live in the Beacon City School District and I work in Beacon.
More about me:
I am a graduate of Beacon High School, having graduated nowhere near the top of my class. I graduated nowhere the middle of my class, either, as this would have involved actually studying for my classes and doing my homework, which I regarded as an untoward intrusion on my free time. I did not go around telling my teachers what to do with their free time and I felt they should return the courtesy. That they did not shows to what great depths incivility had seared itself into the collective psyche of the older generation, a condition I've always ascribed to the malign influence of parenthood. Currently, I am the reference and local history librarian at the Howland Public Library, where I have worked since 1987, so I really shouldn't say that I am currently employed there, as the word currently carries with it the connotation of impermanence, as if I were just working at the library until something better came along, as opposed to my now being a more or less permanent fixture like the mold, the busts of Joseph and Eliza Howland, and the horrifying sense that there's always a full moon in the building. The Howland Public Library is located at 313 Main Street, in a building that once housed Fischmann's Department Store. I regard this as one of God's little ironies; I have spent most of my working life in a place I used to steal stuff out of when I was a kid.
Can you contact me...a writer for the Poughkeepsie Journal is interested in using several of your photos from the Beacon Block Party in an article on the Community Foundation of Dutchess County, which is the umbrella organization for the Beacon of Hope Community Fund. You can reach me at email@example.com.
Hi there...not sure how to reply to that blog post, so I am replying here. They need to be bigger than 8x10-- I figure the next size up or so. There is a lot of raw space. Can you send me some samples of your shots? I am definitely interested in shots of the mountain, river, main street.
