"Jules Vision in Newburgh, the little mall with Sears and Bed Bath and Beyond.  Good honest, fair, nice selection.  "

"Hi, I have been using Southern Dutchess Eye Care in Fishkill. They are in the Mall area across from CVS on Rte. 52 in Fishkill. The MD is Dr. Powell. They seem like a very good modern practice. Not a chain service at all. They have a good selection…"

Optometrist? Best local place for having lenses installed in frames?

I've lived in Beacon just over a year, but haven't really searched out an optometrist yet.  However, I ordered some new frames online, and 2 days later my regular glasses broke.  Now I really need to get some lenses put into my new frames.  Where is the best place to go for this?  Anyone have a favorite optometrist?

"This is ridiculous.  Do not be threatened by his stating his occupation to you.  It's no more scary than if I sternly stated to you that "I am a chef".  Continue unabated on your quest.  Gather as much info as you…"

Zombie Wedding Dance Cancelled?! NOOOoooo...

After trying to purchase tickets online last night, but being unable to find the link on the Beacon Chamber Of Commerce website (beaconny.org), I remembered that Beacon Bagel had a flyer in the window saying that they were selling tickets too. So I went over there after work, and the flyer wasn't there anymore! I feared what I thought was the worst, that they had all sold out. Instead I was told even worse news...that this event had been flat-out cancelled due to "lack of interest". This news…See More

"Thank you Claude for being the ONLY person to even call about the event and that was on Thursday of this week. The response was underwhelming."

"I am sorry to remove my event at the last minute, but due also to the lack of response (mine was a prepaid event) and the cancellation of the Zombie Wedding dance my prizes where null and void. I had promoted this event in many different places but…"

How long have you lived in Beacon?
Since April 30th, 2010
More about me:
I'm a humble, honest, & sensible dude. I am presently employed as a Chef-Supervisor at the Wingate Skilled Nursing facility here in Beacon. I'm not fond of travel, and I don't drive. I suspect that will have to change soon however...

I am a fan of most artistic, and intellectual pursuits. I draw, write, play drums, cook, and recently begun getting into extremely amateur photography. I love food, and have spent a decade eating too much of it, so I've also recently begun to take working out seriously again. There's a long road ahead, but without a journey, what's the point of life?

What's your favorite thing about Beacon?
I have to pick just one thing? That seems a bit restrictive. I suppose I'd have to say that my favorite thing about Beacon is it's "pulse". I appreciate that this town has a life force, and is interested in nurturing and expanding on it. I come from a very depressed area, so living in a place like Beacon makes the world seem so much more open, and enticing.

I will be teaching the writing class at the library again in the fall/winter, not sure exactly when. But the participants asked me to continue teaching them, and so I am organizing a class independently of the library. If you're interested, let me know, though there will be a fee for this one.

Welcome to Beacon, by the way!
Julie
