I just got in from doing my civic duty of shoveling the 6 inches of snow that fell on my sidewalk.  To get to it I had to remove the 18 inches of clumps that the city plow fool threw onto my sidewalk from the street.  I was nice enough to put it back into the street where it came from.

There is no excuse for the way the plowing is done.  I spoke to this at a city council meeting and all the bobbleheads sat there nodding in the way that politicians do as they tell you to go f*** yourself.  I showed them pictures of one of my sidewalks with only the virgin snow that nature put down and the other walk with the natural snow and the plow fool's contribution on top. (I live on a corner and have 175' of sidewalk to clear.  I am 60 yo and do it by hand; carbon footprint and all that stuff)

During the snow on the 16th the plow fool once again moved the snow from the street to my walk.  While I was out shoveling, the plow fool made another pass and as my neighbor and I stood on our respective walks and glared, he slowed down and plowed tight to the curb without throwing the snow onto my walk and 15' into my yard, so he does know how to do it.  He just chooses not to.

Does Mayor Steve still monitor this site?  He was one of the bobble heads!

this happened to us this morning too! totally crazy. i love that you put it back in the street where it came from :)
Just be careful because apparently it is illegal to throw the snow into the street, whether it came from there or not, and you can get ticketed and fined. Stinks!!
In this case I would welcome a ticket.
You should have seen it last year, New Years Eve, the plow actually DESTROYED curbs at several different locations. Didn't notice, feel or hear the cement being ripped upped? I was thinking they are hiring their relatives on holidays or nights and the idiot doesn't know what to do. After the damage last year, how can they let the same person even sit in a plow let alone "plow".

Noticed they got new curb so maybe they paid for the plow person to do it? Cause surely the city paid for the repairs.
I moved to Beacon a few years ago and could not believe we have to shovel the sidewalks. I came from Vermont where we see alot of snow and it is the city or town's responsibility to clear all roads and sidewalks. Considering the taxes are high here you would think they would include that service as well. Another thing that shocked me was as a home owner you are responsible for replacing your sidewalk at your expense as well. Never heard of this either before moving to NY.
Bonnie, they are talking about the plow going so close (too close) to the curb that the plow is putting EXTRA snow on the sidewalk. I never lived anywhere that shoveled the walk for you.

I was talking about New Year Eve 2008 going into 2009 in case there was some confusion about what year I was talking about.

That idiot should have been fired. Too fast and too close to curbs.
wow - never heard of anyplace where the local municipality cleared sidewalks for you ! Had no idea that wa sthe case in VT - certainly not the case in any NYS county that I've ever been in.

I know who it is, I just saw him SPEEDING backwards. It is the dark haired guy driving the red truck. He is going so fast he should be getting a speeding ticket--let alone plowing while speeding.

Hope someone is reading this..... I do not think they are bobble heads. Maybe highway guys say they don't know who it is.
What is the deal with shoveling the sidewalk by the way? I just moved to Beacon so I didn't know whether it was required or not but considering I see the neighbors do it, I figure it is. I have seen the same neighbors out today multiple times shoveling. What if someone isn't home and works all day? You do get ticketed for this?/How often/Has anyone actually gotten a ticket from it?
Yes, you do have to shovel, within 24 hours of the snow stopping. Here's the info on the city website - does not mention ticketing in this section, but there may be more details in the municipal code section that is cited : http://www.cityofbeacon.org/news/snow-ordinances

It is easier to shovel often when it is going to be deep, but you do have 24 hours after it stops.

Something has to be done about the ATV's too. Earlier, saw an ATV flying through stop signs holding a small child. Very reckless for other people and since they don't even care about their own three year old, gosh knows what else they are doing. Someone drove all over peoples lawns, I have seen the damage for weeks going down the hill.

Plus, they are teaching another generation to disobey laws and damage other peoples property. Wonder if the police ever see this?
I have no problem with shoveling the walk. I do have a problem with shoveling 3 or 4 times as much as fell from the sky because a careless plow operator throws snow from the street onto my walk. I have been shoveling walks in this city since 1955 when my parents figured I was old enough to do my share.
