Exactly, Joan! I remember visiting Woodstock a couple years ago on a Sunday, when they have a weekly drum circle in their sort-of town square. I left thinking that's a major thing Main St is missing. I have a dream that it would replace that parking lot across from Homespun. The East End would be nice for the reasons you say, but a central location might be better.

i just got some great feedback. Did you know that the area just over the bridge on East Main Street used to be a square called Fountain Square, and yes, it had a fountain. Also a community garden is being planned near the dummy light.

Beacon needs a town square. Even the smallest town in Europe has a central place where people can hang out outdoors, usually some benches and trees around a central fountain. Usually some businesses sprout up around the square, particularly cafes and food stores where provisions for a picnic can be purchased. I count two vacant lots on Main Street, and there's lots of neglected space near the creek. Anyone know who owns these areas? A town square on the east end would be particularly welcome, as it would bring visitors down to that end of town.

i just emailed MTA about the amount of trash around the station, which is apparently their responsibility. i'm tired of all those blue & white parking receipts everywhere. they emailed me today ensuring one of their managers would take care of it. so we'll see......

As someone who takes the train every day and welcomes many of my friends into Beacon via Metro North, I would love it if the tunnel did not smell like urine. And a mural? Icing on the cake!

You can't go wrong with cool murals and flowers, I think. Great ideas!
