Support Common Ground Farm's Nonprofit Programs

To every thing there is a season...
A time for the land to rest, a time to draw up a growing plan and order the seeds, a time to plan our many education programs at the farm and in our schools. Now is the time we especially need your support to enable us to plan the coming year with confidence. As our focus turns to plans for 2015, we ask you to help the farm continue to thrive and to grow our education, farm-to-school, and food access programs.

Through 2014 your generous support at our booth at the Farmers Market and at our fundraising events has enabled us to:
  • Achieve a huge 50% increase - over 3,000 pounds! -- in our donations of freshly harvested, organically-grown vegetables to food pantries, soup kitchens, and children’s programs.
  • Expand our Farm-to-School programs, bringing positive change to children’s diets through visits to the Farm, lessons with Farmers, and Chefs in the classroom.
  • Become a partner in Beacon’s community garden project with the Green Teens and Tito Santana Taqueria. We grew our partnership with the Green Teens with their Mobile Market deliveries to low income communities and children’s free summer lunch sites where we provided chefs, recipes, and hands-on cooking demonstrations.
  • Provide 2,000 children and adults with hands-on education programs at the farm: a blockbuster year! In the 2014-2015 school year alone, every student attending J.V. Forrestal Elementary School in grades K-5, will have visited the Farm.
With your help we shall be even busier and more productive in 2015!

On many days our fields are alive with children, learning while having fun. Some are harvesting herbs and vegetables they then cook and eat; others are learning about beneficial insects, digging for worms in our rich compost, studying ladybugs in a bug box; others are gathering round the farmer, learning the different parts of a plant.

Being able to use the incredible resources of a real farm to present food and nutrition education in a tangible, relevant, and exciting way is very special. Learning through experiential discovery is enormously powerful. Children revel in the opportunity to get their hands in the soil – and we give them that opportunity. Join us in helping to make this all possible!

Make your tax-deductible donation at http://www.commongroundfarm.org or by regular mail to Common Ground Farm. P.O. Box 148, Beacon, NY 12508.

Your contribution is vital to our exciting plans for nurturing our land and everyone in our communities in 2015. Thank you.

Winter Preschool Groups at the farm are starting on Dec. 8 & 11. Check the website for details.

Also, I'm running a series for older kids (6 - 8 years olds) on Pioneer Living, based on the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. If you know of anyone who might be interested please send them my way!
