On Thursday February 12th at 7 PM, the Beacon Sloop Club will present legendary folk artist David Massengill in a free-to-the-public concert and lecture about the Mountain Dulcimer.
David Massengill is an American folk singer/songwriter, guitar and Appalachian Dulcimer player who was part of the Greenwich Village folk scene in the mid-70’s, walking the same streets and playing the same storied coffee houses as Dylan and Van Ronk. He has released 6 albums and his songs have been covered and recorded by Joan Baez, The Roches, Lucy Kaplansky, Tom Russell, and Nanci Griffith. His friend and mentor, Dave Van Ronk, said David “took the dull out of dulcimer!”
Massengill is virtuoso of the mountain dulcimer, and is one of the instrument's prime proponents in the field of melding traditional and contemporary music styles including alternate tunings. He is a mentor to many in the dulcimer and folk community in general.
Massengill will provide a short of the mountain dulcimer and how he came to play this indelibly Appalachian instrument. He will be playing songs from his albums including “On the Road to Fairfield County” and other favorites.
Join us for an intimate free concert at the Beacon Sloop Club house.
