Mala Waldron is a prolific songwriter as well as an accomplished pianist/vocalist based in the New York City area. She has performed internationally in such places as France, Italy, Japan, China, Malaysia, Belgium and most recently Russia.
Her CDs include "He's My Father" (duo with father, jazz pianist/composer Mal Waldron,) "Lullabye" (tribute to her godmother, Billie Holiday) and her most recent "Always There" which, in addition to being her first U.S. release, was also licensed by Columbia Records in Japan and voted one of the "Top 20 Jazz CDs of 2006" by Jazz USA.
Equally captivating on vocals as on piano, she has been compared to the likes of Nina Simone, Diana Krall and Roberta Flack as her appeal is broad. She clearly draws inspiration from the various genres of music she was exposed to as a child, with the strongest influence coming from her jazz roots.
