Marion Royael Gallery presents, Carl Van Brunt in his solo exhibit 'RetroFuture'
Opening Reception; June 12th, 2010 6-10pm. Exhibit runs through July 4th, 2010
Marion Royael Gallery, 460 Main Street, Beacon, New York, presents 'RetroFuture' showcasing, in a solo exhibit, the work of Carl Van Brunt.
Marion Royael Gallery is pleased to present guest artist Carl Van Brunt in his solo exhibit 'RetroFuture'. This exhibit spans four decades of the artist's continuing career. The exhibit includes an early painting from 1966 'Old Man with Flower', digital paintings from the 70's to present and his new series, 'Night Lite'. In addition to being an accomplished visual artist Mr. Van Brunt is a well respected gallerist, owner and director of the Van Brunt Gallery.
"I have been making digital art for over 25 years. Before that I painted on canvas, first with oils later with acrylics. Thanks to the guidance of my parents, I was exposed to serious art at an early age. My Mom played me records of music by Bartok and Stravinsky, my Dad took me to see paintings by Picasso and Franz Kline. I also studied and practiced the art of advertising. My career path has been situated on the line between commercial and fine art and I have spent substantial amounts of time on both sides of that line. The bridge between these two worlds has been my fascination with digital technology as a creative tool."
Carl Van Brunt utilizes a drawing tool called a digitizing pen and tablet. This digital pen is pressure-sensitive and drawing with it is almost exactly the same as drawing on paper or painting on canvas. His current work is still digital, but he has simplified things. Instead of using four different kinds of software to make highly complex images, he uses Photoshop and digitizing pen and tablet to make very spare cartoonish allegorical paintings.
Digital painting is a emerging art medium in which common painting techniques are applied with digital tools by means of a computer, a digitizing tablet and stylus, and software. Digital painting differs from computer-generated art in that it does not involve the computer rendering from a model. The artist uses painting techniques to create the digital painting directly on the computer.
'Night Lite' a new body of digitized paintings will be among the works exhibited at Marion Royael Gallery from June 12th through July 4th. Gallery Co-Owner Steven Paul Riddle said, 'RetroFuture', gives the viewer a panorama of Carl Van Brunt's continuing artistic career and a sense that much more is yet to come. This is a significant exhibit from an artist who is utilizing and expanding the new emerging art medium of digital painting."
