Great news! The City of Newburgh is going to have a historic Cucumber Magnolia tree planted on August 19th. The tree which is  featured in the "Mystery of The Magical Cucumber Tree" by Richie Cabo will be planted at Downing Park in Newburgh because it was one of Andrew Jackson's favorite trees in the pleasure grounds. The utmost scholar on the life of Andrew Jackson Downing and author of "The Apostle of Taste" David Schuyler is publishing a new book about the history of America, artists and landscapes. The Cucucmber tree will be presented by NYC Parks Dept. because of a special request to the Commissioner of NYC Parks, as a result of the article which I wrote. This article explains how the Sargent~Downing Gardens concept got off the ground.

See Link below :

We have several of these growing in Sargent~Downing Gardens and have planted one in the woods across from the University Settlement Camp Park caretaker Pat's house.
