The Coffee Shoppe Theater is proud to present a love letter to the horror-genre, Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon as our first ever screening, and the beginning of something big in the little city of Beacon, NY. A truly independent film, made as a labor of love, and a true testament of the power of the people with a shoestring budget of $262,000, Behind the Mask quickly became a cult-hit, and rightfully took on a life of its own solidifying its titular character Leslie Vernon as one of the greats alongside the likes of legends Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, and Jason Vorhees.
Shot as a documentary, with tongue firmly in cheek, and a keen understanding of not only why the slasher genre resonates, but why its so much damn fun, Behind the Mask tells the story of Leslie Mancuso, a man who aspires to join the greats in the pantheon of slashers. Teaming with a young, eager documentary crew he walks them through the preparations taken, the mentality needed, and justifies the necessity of monsters in our world, as he prepares for the biggest night of his life. The town of Glen Echoes will never be the same.
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is a hilarious and smart horror-film that will satisfy fans of any genre. The Coffee Shoppe is proud to present a one night screening, hoping to introduce this film to a new audience, and bring attention to the crowd-sourcing efforts to bring Leslie Vernon back to the screen. Join us for this one of a kind event, with surprises galore, and be a part of something special.
Currently film-maker Scott Glosserman is trying to crowd-source efforts through Kickstarter to bring another installment to cinema screens. We want to help. All proceeds from the screening will be pledged towards the project in hopes of getting it off the ground. This is supporting the arts.
