Marion Royael Gallery, 460 Main Street, Beacon, New York, presents 'Four by Six' showcasing the photorealistic oil paintings of David Coalburn
Mr. Coalburn paints a variety of photorealistic images utilizing common subjects with uncommon compositions. He paints from his studio located in Alabama and takes six months out of each year traveling the country painting whatever attracts his artistic eye. David Coalburn has gained a national audience of collectors with his trading card sized oil paintings. For this exhibit, Mr. Coalburn has created 30 four by six inch postcard sized oil paintings which are only available exclusively through Marion Royael Gallery.
"Most of my formal training is of a more graphical nature stemming from my education in landscape design. Looking back I would have to say my grandfather has always been the most important influence in my artistic career. He taught me to paint when I was very young. I can remember sitting on the porch and watching him paint whatever happened to be running around the yard at the time. I also credit him for my choice of subjects arising from the deep love for nature and animals. For me, if a painting looks like a photo it is average, if it looks like you are looking through a window then it's good, but if it takes you to another place, making you feel like you are right there, then it is truly inspired."
In addition to David Coalburn, Marion Royael introduces the impressionistic works of John David "Jack" Thornton and the 'In Action' sculptures of Hy and Ivan Suchman. Jack Thornton paints his surroundings in a unique fashion which separates him from other artists of a similar ilk . His work is immediately noticeable as different and his painting style rare. Hy Suchman has been sculpting his "In Action" motion figures for over 60 years and has collectors throughout the country and in Europe. His son Ivan, who from time to time been an assistant to Hy, is now continuing in his Father's footsteps and creating large and exciting sculptures of his own. Hy, Ivan and Jack join David Coalburn in 'Four by Six'.
