In 1931, Edgar Cayce, the American Christian mystic and prophet, gave a series of trance sessions that outlined practical steps toward true spiritual growth.
A small group of people in Virginia Beach, Virginia began to study and work with this material. They began to apply the information in their lives and worked hand in hand with Edgar Cayce to put these concepts into lessons that were eventually published in book form as "A Search for God" .
It is important to recognize that the title given is A Search for God, as opposed to The Search for God. We are all one but there are many paths.
Cayce insisted that everything we need is within ourselves. In this sense each person becomes their own teacher, and a teacher to others in the group as they show the results in their lives.
During these group sessions, a small portion of the material is read, discussed and brought into practical application each week. Cayce says this is where the soul growth occurs; not simply by knowing, but through applying the principles. Group meditation, using the devices discussed in the Cayce readings, and prayer are used to seek greater attunement with the Universal Forces. Complementary material from Buddhist, Hindu and Islamic traditions are explored as well.
