The Howland Public Library is pleased to present, Beacon Lens, an exhibition of photographs by members of The Beacon Photography Group. Beacon Lens will be on view in The Community Room Exhibit Space from August 8th – September 6th, 2015. A Second Saturday artists’ reception will he held on August 8th from 5-7 pm.
The Beacon Photography Group was formed in 2013 by local photographers, Tom Conroy and Michael Bogdanffy-Kriegh. It began as a facebook community group where photographers could share their work and get feedback from their peers. Later, local filmmaker, Jon Slackman, came on board to help moderate the group. Soon the group began having face-to-face gatherings at local venues and photo walk meetups. The photographers in the group range from people just beginning to explore the craft and amateur enthusiasts to fine artists and seasoned professionals. For this exhibit, each photographer was asked to share the image they felt best represented their work. The resulting exhibition shows the diversity of each photographer's style and point of view. Local photographers interested in joining the Beacon Photography Group can visit their facebook page, www.facebook.com/groups/Beaconphotogroup/.
As an extension of the exhibit, the Beacon Photographers will also have a digital slideshow on the library’s electronic bulletin board. The Second Saturday Slideshow can be viewed from Main Street through the library’s windows the evening of August 8th in honor of Beacon’s annual Windows on Main Street event.
